RAN report titled “’Orangutan Capital’ Under Siege: New Evidence Shows Illegal Deforestation in Indonesia’s Leuser Ecosystem” highlighted deforestation and illegal palm oil plantations in Rawa Singkil Wildlife Reserve (RSWR) area.

One of the companies reported to have been sourcing illegal palm oil from the RSWR area was PT Global Sawit Semesta (PT GSS). The report alleged PT GSS of sourcing illegal FFB through two brokers called UD Daya and UD Iqbal Jaya (UD IJ).

We have reached out to PT GSS for clarification regarding these allegations.

Responding to the RAN report, PT GSS has clarified the following:

  1. PT GSS does not supply from UD Daya
  2. PT GSS has verified and confirmed that the truck reported by RAN is owned by UD IJ that supplies FFB to PT GSS through another broker.
  3. To prevent the supply of illegal FFB, PT GSS and the broker have immediately stopped purchasing from UD IJ.
PT GSS has not been able to conduct a field verification to verify the findings in RAN report.

Since PT GSS has not provided adequate evidences to clarify RAN investigations, we have decided not to continue the commercial relationship with PT GSS at the end of November 2024.
