Sejak bergabung dengan Musim Mas lebih dari 10 tahun yang lalu, Vincent dan timnya telah menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang aman bagi semua orang.
Pada Hari Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja Sedunia ini, mari pelajari lebih lanjut mengenai perjalanan Vincent sebagai personel keselamatan pertama pada refinery kami di India.
Personel keselamatan pertama pada refinery kami di Nellore
Kolastic Vincent Paul, Manajer Lingkungan, Kesehatan, dan Keselamatan di South India Krishna Oil & Fats (SIKOF), bagian dari Grup Musim Mas.
Ketika Vincent pertama kali bergabung dengan perusahaan pada tahun 2012, dia tidak memiliki tim, karena dia adalah salah satu dari sedikit karyawan pertama di refinery SIKOF di Nellore, India. Dalam beberapa tahun, Vincent telah membangun sebuah tim yang terdiri dari 5 karyawan yang bertanggung jawab atas keselamatan di tempat kerja.
Tahun-tahun awal
Perjalanan Vincent bukanlah tanpa tantangan. Pada tahun-tahun awal, tidak ada proses yang tetap ataupun mentor yang membimbingnya, karena refinery baru beroperasi. Dia memulainya dengan memahami celah dan persyaratan yang diperlukan untuk mematuhi hukum dan peraturan keselamatan. Selanjutnya, Vincent mengusulkan dukungan yang diperlukan kepada manajemen.
Dia menetapkan dan melaksanakan kebijakan keselamatan tempat kerja dan Prosedur Operasi Standar (Standard Operating Procedures – SOP) seperti Alat Pelindung Diri (APD), pengarahan keselamatan dan pelatihan keselamatan kerja, sistem izin kerja, pusat kesehatan kerja, analisis keselamatan kerja, dan penilaian risiko.
Pandemi COVID-19
Tantangan lainnya adalah saat COVID-19 mewabah di tahun 2020. Refinery harus tetap beroperasi karena pabrik tersebut memproduksi bahan makanan pokok seperti minyak goreng dan margarin untuk konsumen lokal di India. Vincent adalah salah satu anggota penting dari rencana kesinambungan bisnis, dimana dia dan timnya menerapkan berbagai protokol keselamatan. Hal ini termasuk memastikan jarak yang aman dan menekankan pentingnya memakai masker/pelindung wajah dan APD lainnya.
Alasan mengapa keselamatan kerja di tempat kerja penting bagi Vincent
Memastikan lingkungan kerja yang aman dan sehat bukan hanya sebuah persyaratan kerja, tetapi juga misi pribadi yang ditanggapi dengan sangat serius oleh Vincent. Dia merasa bangga ketika dapat mengidentifikasi dan menangani setiap tindakan atau kondisi tidak aman di tempat kerja. Vincent berkomitmen untuk menciptakan kesadaran di antara semua karyawan tentang bahaya yang ada di tempat kerja, dan mengedukasi mereka tentang praktik terbaik untuk memitigasi risiko tersebut.
Vincent selalu antusias tentang keselamatan di tempat kerja dan pentingnya hal itu bagi karyawan dan perusahaan secara keseluruhan. Dia sangat yakin bahwa menjaga reputasi Musim Mas membutuhkan kepatuhan yang ketat terhadap kebijakan dan prosedur keselamatan.
Hal yang membuat Vincent termotivasi di tempat kerja
Motivasi Vincent dalam bekerja berasal dari kecintaannya menemukan cara-cara inovatif untuk memastikan keselamatan kerja bagi rekan-rekannya. Vincent juga sangat termotivasi oleh dukungan dari tim dan manajemen seniornya. Mengetahui bahwa usahanya diapresiasi dan dihargai oleh atasannya, Vincent terbantu untuk tetap fokus dan berkomitmen pada pekerjaannya. Dia merasa puas mengetahui bahwa dia membuat dampak positif pada kehidupan rekan-rekannya. Bagi Vincent, keselamatan di tempat kerja lebih dari sekadar pekerjaan; itu adalah misi pribadi yang dia anggap sangat serius.

Today on World Day for Safety and Health at Work, let’s learn more about Vincent and his journey as the first safety personnel in our India refinery.
The first safety personnel in our Nellore refinery
Meet J. Kolastic Vincent Paul, the Environment, Health, and Safety Manager at South India Krishna Oil & Fats (SIKOF), part of Musim Mas Group.
When Vincent first joined the company in 2012, he didn’t have a team, as he was one of the first few pioneer employees at SIKOF’s refinery in Nellore, India. Over the years, he has built a team of 5 employees responsible for workplace safety.
The initial years
Vincent’s journey wasn’t one without challenges. During the initial years, there weren’t any fixed processes or mentors to guide him as the refinery was newly in operation. He began by understanding the gaps and requirements needed to comply with safety laws and regulations. Next, Vincent proposed to his management the support that was required.
He established and executed workplace safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), induction and workplace safety training, work permit systems, occupational health centres, job safety analysis, and risk assessments.
The COVID-19 pandemic
Another challenge was during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. The refinery had to continue operating because the plant produces food essentials like cooking oil and margarine for local consumers in India. Vincent was one of the key members of the business continuity plan, where he and his team implemented various safety protocols. This includes ensuring safe distancing and emphasizing the importance of wearing masks/face shields and other PPEs.
Why workplace safety is important to Vincent
Ensuring a safe and healthy work environment isn’t just a job requirement but a personal mission that Vincent takes very seriously. He feels a sense of pride when he identifies and addresses any unsafe act or condition in the workplace. Vincent is committed to creating awareness among all employees about the hazards that exist in the workplace and educating them on the best practices to mitigate these risks.
Vincent has always been passionate about workplace safety and the importance it holds for both employees and the company as a whole. He firmly believes that upholding Musim Mas’ reputation requires strict adherence to safety policies and procedures.
What keeps Vincent motivated at work
Vincent’s motivation at work comes from his love for finding innovative ways to ensure the safety of his colleagues. Vincent is also highly motivated by the support he receives from his team and top management. Knowing that his efforts are appreciated and valued by those above him helps Vincent to stay focused and committed to his work. He feels fulfilled knowing that he’s making a positive impact on the lives of his colleagues. For Vincent, workplace safety is more than just a job; it’s a personal mission that he takes very seriously.
