Medan, February 28, 2025—Musim Mas Group is pleased to announce that its 18 subsidiaries in the Palm Oil Mill and Plantation sectors have successfully secured 14 Green PROPER and 10 Blue PROPER awards. Administered by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH), the outcome of the Corporate Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management, commonly known as the PROPER Award for 2024, was announced in Jakarta on Monday, February 24, 2025.

Musim Mas Group has increased its Green PROPER awards from 11 last year to 14 this year. The Green PROPER rating signifies exceptional environmental performance and compliance with prevailing legal regulations. The company consistently manages environmental impacts effectively and efficiently, including waste management, minimizing pollution, utilizing renewable energy, and implementing conservation efforts within operational areas.

“As a globally recognized company with primary operations in Indonesia, Musim Mas Group is committed to environmentally responsible and sustainable palm oil industry practices. Our efforts are centered on minimizing and mitigating environmental impacts within our operational areas, specifically on conservation initiatives and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We are honored to acknowledge that Musim Mas Group has been recognized with the most Green PROPER awards in the palm oil industry this year. Of the 16 palm oil sub-sector companies that received Green PROPER awards, 14 are our subsidiaries,” explained Teuku Kanna Rhamdan, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at Musim Mas Group.

“Following pertinent national and international regulations, Musim Mas Group is actively engaged in conservation and restoration efforts to fulfill its commitment to environmental management. A key strategy involves the restoration of riparian zones and other buffer zones by planting native trees. “Protecting riparian zones is paramount to our Net Zero strategy, as this initiative contributes to maintaining water quality, sequestering carbon, preserving habitats and wildlife corridors, preventing soil erosion, and sustaining soil quality,” Kanna emphasized. Over the past 15 years, the group has successfully planted over 155,000 trees, which are continuously monitored and maintained for survival.

Furthermore, Musim Mas Group does not conduct new planting on natural ecosystems within its operational areas, including High Conservation Value (HCV) areas, peatlands, and High Carbon Stock (HCS) forests.

Musim Mas Group implements the Zero-Waste concept within its palm oil mill operations, whereby by-products are recycled and transformed into safe materials for reuse. Additionally, the company operates Methane Capture facilities to manage the methane waste gas generated by its operations. This waste gas is converted into electricity, which is used to power plantations and worker housing at Musim Mas Group’s mill and estate locations.

“Musim Mas was the first group to extend Methane Capture initiatives to virtually all its facilities to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. We are particularly proud to acknowledge that, last year, the Minister of Environment and the Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), Mr. Hanif Faisol, personally visited our Methane Capture facility in Sorek, Riau, as part of the roadmap development for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia,” Kanna stated.

Starting in 2024, Musim Mas Group has aligned its Net Zero commitment with Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) guidelines, aiming to achieve Net Zero by 2050. This initiative aligns with the Paris Agreement and Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
