Musim Mas Net Zero Commitment

3 October 2024, Singapore — Musim Mas (the “Group”) is pleased to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially validated the Group’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. This validation follows the Group’s commitment eight months ago to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050. This commitment aligns with the Paris Agreement’s ambitious goal to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Musim Mas is proud to have both its near- and long-term science-based emission reduction targets validated under the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard and the SBTi Forest, Land, and Agriculture Guidance (FLAG). Musim Mas’s validated Net-Zero targets mark a significant step for the palm oil industry, concretizing the Group’s commitment to sustainability and responsible practices. This effort is crucial to our broader goal of supporting global climate action and positively impacting the communities and ecosystems linked to our operations.

Using 2021 as the Group’s baseline year, Musim Mas has committed to these near- and long-term targets:

Category Near-Term 2030 Targets Net Zero 2050 Targets
Energy and Industry Reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 42% by 20301 Reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 20501
FLAG Reduce absolute scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 30.3% by 20302 Reduce absolute scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 72% by 20502

“We are keen to be part of the global movement for ambitious corporate decarbonization. We embarked on decarbonization in 2010 when we installed our first methane capture facility and successfully reduced our upstream emissions intensity over the years. We are proud to have our SBTi targets validated and will continue our journey towards achieving them,” says Olivier Tichit, Director of Sustainability, Musim Mas.

He added, “Looking ahead, Musim Mas is reviewing potential interventions and exploring other collaborations for emissions reductions and removals. We realize that it will be challenging to achieve net zero emissions, but we have a firm conviction that we must urgently take action against climate change. We urge our suppliers and the entire industry to join us in this effort.“

Note:
1The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks
2 The target includes FLAG emissions and removals.
