Singapore, 25 October 2021 – We share the concerns of our stakeholders regarding deforestation. Firm action in support of biodiversity protection is necessary to achieve climate resilience. We all have a role to play, and Musim Mas remains committed to no Deforestation, no Peat, and no Exploitation (NDPE) in our supply chains. This starts with our own operations.
We are compliant with the regulations of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, including the licensing process for our plantations. Descrepancies are investigated and addressed through the applicable processes.
Suspicions of overlaps between licences granted for plantations and the forest domain are unfortunately frequent. Their main causes are well documented.
The Government of Indonesia is engaged in a vast exercise of investigation and -when applicable- regularisation of such overlaps. This follows a successful campaign to curb deforestation, which has brought deforestation to its lowest level in twenty years (Mongabay article). We support these efforts, and are looking forward to a swift resolution of the majority of cases.
At Musim Mas, we believe in multi-stakeholder dialogue. Such dialogue is most constructive when based on accurate data and a balanced analysis.
