What is the Program About?
We are part of a multi-stakeholder collaboration working on a joint vision of green growth for the two regencies, Siak and Pelalawan. The Siak-Pelalawan Landscape Program is a private sector coalition that aims to support the Siak Green District initiative in achieving sustainable palm oil production, aligning the delivery of sourcing commitments with the development goals of the district. These goals include protecting and enhancing forests, improving the livelihoods of smallholders and local communities, and establishing traceability data.
To improve the deforestation monitoring and verification system, we invested in developing a new, publicly available radar-based forest monitoring system known as Radar Alerts for Detecting Deforestation (RADD) to alert the public of cases of deforestation in Indonesia. Siak-Pelalawan would be one of its pilot areas and be integrated into our landscape programs. The RADD system is also piloted in Aceh Tamiang as part of IDH’s Verified Sourcing Area (VSA) project since October 2020.
